Glamis Castle will form the magnificent backdrop to a new production of Roald Dahl’s classic ‘Danny The Champion of the World’, which is touring this summer.
Illyria Theatre Company, one of the country’s foremost theatrical interpreters of the author’s work, will bring their show to Glamis on Thursday, July 14.
Audience members are being encouraged to take their own picnics and enjoy a fun, relaxing evening in the dramatic setting of the castle grounds.
In their 25th anniversary year, which also marks the centenary of Dahl’s birth, the theatre company has secured the rights to perform their fifth Dahl title.
The story centres on Danny and his devoted father who live in a caravan and operate the village’s local petrol station and garage. When Danny turns nine he is devastated to find out about his father’s secret passion for pheasant-poaching in the estate of nasty local landowner Victor Hazell.
When Danny awakes to find his father has not returned from a night of poaching and fearing that his father may be in danger, Danny sets off to rescue hi and he soon finds himself the mastermind behind the most daring plot.
Oliver Gray, artistic director, said: “Dahl’s genius lay in telling stories that appeal to adults and children alike, and ‘Danny The Champion Of The World is no exception’. Glamis Castle is the perfect outdoor backdrop for this summer treat.”
