Royal Artillery seeks local recruits

Troop restart: Montrose Royal Artillery has restarted parades after the Christmas holiday break with its first parade of 2012 having taken place last Monday (January 9).

Recruiting nights: The Troop is hosting another open night on Thursday (January 19), when potential new cadets can come along and find out about the many activities and opportunities open to them as members of the Army Cadet Force. Included in the activities on offer are skiing, sports, adventure training, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and weekend and annual camp. There is also an adventure training and military exercise in Cyprus in 2012.

Basic training: Cadets Ross Broomfield, Ricky Robb and Zac Robson have completed their basic training and passed all basic training tests and are now 1 Star cadets.

Troop presentation night: The troop presentation night will be on Thursday, January 26 in Montrose Town Hall. The cadet commandant Colonel Andrew Cassidy and Colonel Kenny Simpson, the Battalion Hon Colonel will, both attend to present the troop’s cadets with their awards.

Cyprus Exercise: The Angus & Dundee Battalion is planning to take a party of senior cadets to Cyprus in April to spend some time with the British Army stationed there. The activities planned include canoeing, a field exercise with the regular army and sightseeing trips to various villages and attractions on the island.

Field gun training: The annual Cadet Field Gun Competition against the sea and air cadets is to be held this year at Dens Park during half-time in Dundee FC’s home matches in April. Training to select the army cadet team will be held under the supervision of RSM M. Pascoe, Battalion RSM, at Buddon CTC on Saturday, April 18.

Ski Training: The battalion adventure training officer Major Rod Thomson will conduct ski training at RM Condor during January to train and select cadets to take part in a ski weekend at the Nevis Range and Glencoe during the first weekend in February.

Annual Camp 2012: Altcar Training Camp near Southport on Merseyside has been confirmed as the location for annual camp 2012. Angus & Dundee Battalion will be there from Saturday, July 14 to Friday, July 27.
