The East and Old Parish Church in Forfar is preparing to welcome a Russian choir on Monday, November 17.
Voskresenije (Resurrection) is a chamber choir consisting of eight professional female and male vocalists, together with their musical director, Yury Maruk. All have studied at St. Petersburg Conservatoire in Russia and are soloists in their own right. Each year they tour the United Kingdom, performing their unique blend of sacred and secular Russian music. As part of their UK tour choir members will be accommodated by host church families in Forfar on the night of the concert before travelling to Aberdeen the next day.
The choir was founded by Yury in 1993 and has performed in Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Austria.
Originally from Barnaul, West Siberia, conductor Yury Maruk has worked at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg as both a singer and conductor and was also choir master of the St. Petersburg Radio and Television choir.
The concert will begin at 7.30 p.m. Tickets priced £10 are on sale at the church or at the door on the night. Refreshments are included.
