Seeking answers over PIP delays

Angus MP Mike has written to Minister of State for Disabled people, Mike Penning, about the lengthy delays constituents have faced when applying for the Personal Independence Payment.

PIP was first introduced by the present UK government in 2013 and was planned to replace the existing Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

The changeover is happening in stages and the UK Government have employed ATOS Healthcare to carry out PIP assessments for constituents in Angus.

Mike Weir said: “It’s frankly unacceptable that people are waiting as long as seven months for an assessment.

“Other benefits can be affected by the outcome of the PIP assessment. I have been approached by many people who have heard nothing following their application. This is unacceptable.

“It is imperative that any benefits system is fair. To leave people hanging on for months without knowing what is happening, and the anxiety that this can cause to sometimes very vulnerable people patently fails that test.”
