local organisations have turned out in force to stage a show next weekend in support of the local lifeboat crew.
The RNLI holds a fund-raising week every January on the theme of SOS with which the Montrose branch has been involved for the last four years. Its activities have been varied - including a haggis-eating competition last year - but this will be the first time a show has been organised. The proceeds will go towards equipment and crew training.
Staged in the town hall next Saturday, January 21, at 7.30pm ‘Support Our Show’ will involve some of the best in local talent from the town’s performance groups and dancing schools.
It will be compered by lifeboat guild member Joe Wishart and Sheila Mann, who will also present their own tribute to Captain Peacock and Mrs Slocombe from the classic TV comedy ‘Are You Being Served’.
Lynn Coull, who is organising the show jointly with Emma MacDonald, said it will be a chance for local people to get behind their lifeboat crew. Nationally the RNLI relies completely on donations and all crew members volunteer to respond to emergency call-outs.
Lynn said: “I was approached by Ray Wilkie from the lifeboat to organise it as he thought that putting on a show in the town would be a good way of fund-raising. Hopefully the citizens of Montrose will come out in force to support this evening of entertainment featuring a host of local talent.”
Tickets, costing £10, are available now from Hogg’s Newsagent on the High Street.
