AFTER dealing with a few business matters, president Wilma Armatage introduced Richard Leiper as guest speaker at St Cyrus WRI’s February meeting.
Mr Leiper gave a fascinating talk on ‘The Old Coach Road’ from the North Water bridge to Stonehaven and how it evolved from a series of rough tracks. The first real improvements began about 1724 when General Wade began forming a road network for the sake of military vehicles, possibly including the road from Montrose to Inverbervie.
He also showed a series of photographs of surviving remains of the old tracks in the area.
Ethel Ross thanked him for a most interesting talk.
