A NEW name has to be found for the Friends of Sunnyside, a separate and distinct organisation from the Friends of Stracathro.
As patients move to the new Susan Carnegie Unit at Stracathro the Friends of Sunnyside continue their efforts for its patients. Secretary Irene Taylor said: “We shall also continue our contact with the Inchcape unit at Arbroath and Prosen Unit at Forfar.”
Direct contact with patients will go on at the Wednesday afternoon Rendezvous Club, where anyone fancying a change from the wards can come for a blether and a cuppie, or maybe dominoes or a sing-song.
This personal contact is at the heart of the Sunnyside Friends’ approach. China, the golden retriever, and her predecessor, Sam, have been very popular visitors in their role as Therapets.
The Friends, under their new name, will continue to buy gifts for the wards. Among recent gifts have been a table tennis table, a Wii, a flat screen TV, special furniture and a parachute game for the energetic.
Irene Clark continued: “All this is done courtesy of the Montrose community which supports our money-raising efforts (raffles, flag days and coffee mornings), and to the local businesses who donate prizes so generously. Long may this continue.
“Indeed, your presence would be very welcome at the Friends’ next coffee morning on December 10 in the Old Kirk and St Andrew’s Church hall.
“We hope to see you there!”
