It is not too late to take part as the clock ticks down towards Arbroath’s tenth annual Relay for Life event.
Committee Chair Ian Angus has moved to re-assure anyone thinking they have left it too late that there is still time to register a team and join Arbroath’s biggest annual fundraiser for Cancer Research UK on September 17, at Lochlands Cricket Ground.
Ian explained: “There is still plenty of time to register but it is obviously easier for us to plan for the day when we have a clearer idea of how many people are taking part so the sooner people register the better.”
Addressing some of the more common queries from potential participants, Ian continued: “We recommend between eight to 15 people per team. More than 15 members can be difficult for team captains to manage and give everyone an opportunity to take to the track. With fewer than eight, each team member will need to spend more time walking in order to cover the 24-hour period.
“On the issue of fundraising, all donations, no matter how big or small, are greatly appreciated. Every penny raised goes to fund vital research. We don’t set a target for teams to meet but the more we raise collectively the more research work can be done in the year ahead. There is still time for teams to organise their own fund-raising events leading up to the Relay weekend in September.”
Relay is not a race or endurance test the organisers simply ask that teams have at least one person on the track at all times. As a personal choice some team members may set personal goals and end up doing more laps than others. You can also walk in pairs or groups to make it more enjoyable.
Ian added: “We understand that some people won’t be able to be at the track for the whole event. We simply encourage team members to stay for as long as possible to support each other.”
