MONTROSE Stroke Club has expressed deep gratitude for the gift of £1,031.01 from Mr Jim Moncur and family (picture, last week), handed over in memory of his late wife, Nancy.
For the club, treasurer Isabel Byers emphasised to the Review that theirs is an independent club, and that any donations are banked and used locally rather than being sent to a national headquarters.
There are around a dozen members, plus helpers, but Isabel feels there are many more people locally who would benefit from the club. She said: “It is a support group and will go on supporting a stroke victim, a year or even 10 years on - as long as there is a need.
“Whilst the Moncur family’s donation has come out of sadness, it will help provide benefit to our members by way of outings and the like.”
The club meets every Wednesday morning at the West End Bowling Club, adjacent to Tesco, from 10am to 12 noon. There are guest speakers, or activities such as raffles and bingo. Local businesses help support the club.
Helpers enable members to undertake things that they might not otherwise be able to do - even filling in bingo numbers!
Anyone who would like to join, either a stroke victim or a helper, can contact Isabel on 675059 or secretary Olive Clark, 678617.
