Tayside Opera Company’s next production to be performed in Angus, is to be Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti.
The performance will take place in The Mechanics’ Institute, Brechin on Saturday, May 21 at 7.30pm.
The opera is born out of Sir Walter Scott’s tragic novel focusing on the unhappy bride Lucia (Lucy) of Lammermoor. A story of treachery, murder, vengeance and the famous‘mad scene’ in Act 111.
The opera has musical beauty in lavish measure and constant throbs of true dramatic feeling. Lucia will be sung by Frances Taylor.
Ailsa, companion to Lucia, is sung by mezzosoprano Barbara Scott. Alister Allan, tenor, returns this year, in the role of Lord Enrico Ashton and is joined by Russell Malcolm as Raimondo Bidebent and Andreas Ottenberg as Lord Arturo Bucklaw.
One of two tenors making their debut performances is Ian McBain as Sir Edgardo Di Ravenswood. Iain presently studying at the Conservatoire (Glasgow). The second is Brechin’s own Michael Jamieson, performing as Normanno Captain of the Guard at Ravenswood. He is studying music in Edinburgh.
