Thought for the Week

THIS last couple of weeks have been tinged with sadness with the passing of Frank Beckett and Anna Geddes

I got to know Frank through his dear wife Eileen who was a stalwart of St Mary and St Peter’s Church until they moved to Waltham to be near to their daughter Helen and her family.

I also knew Frank through the Probus Club where he gave a very informative talk of his life in the army during the Second World War.

While travelling back from Frank’s funeral we got sad news that our friend Anna Geddes had died. Anna was my Sunday school teacher (Miss Smithers) many years ago at St Mary and St Peter’s and she was always very proud that we still have a Sunday club which is now taught by Nancy Scott and Mandy Wales.

Anna always said that the children should have fun while they learn about Jesus and if you listen on a Sunday morning to the laughter coming from the Sunshine Room and see the smiles on the children’s faces, you know that the teachers have done a good job.

I have been having withdrawal symptoms since the Olympics finished but I am also looking forward to the Paralympics starting soon. I really admire the men and women who go through a lot of pain and training to get a medal for their country. They are an inspiration to us all.

I would like to end by thanking our rector, Rev. Canon Steve Collis, for all his hard work over the last three years. Steve has announced that he will be retiring in November and he and his wife, Kath, will be missed by us all. May God bless them in their new life together.
