Touching tale of friendship

DUNDEE Rep Ensemble’s next production is the hilarious and touching Steel Magnolias, an endearing story of friendship among a group of gutsy Southern women living in small-town 80’s America.

It will run from Wednesday, February 22 to Saturday, March 10 at 7.30 pm.

Superbly witty and moving, Steel Magnolias revolves around Truvy’s beauty salon, the most successful shop in town with only one philosophy at its core ‘There is no such thing as natural beauty’.

The six close-knit women regularly meet, sharing everything: laughter, gossip, even their problems and their dreams.

New friendships are forged and old ones cemented as we follow their varied lives uniting them in joy and grief.

Best known as Ella Cotter in Rab C. Nesbit, much-loved actress Barbara Rafferty comes to the Rep for the first time playing alongside the award-winning female members of Dundee Rep Ensemble including Irene Macdougall, Anne Louise Ross and Emily Winter; completing the cast are ensemble graduates Kirsty MacKay and Natalie Wallace.

The production is directed by Dundee Rep’s associate director Jemima Levick and designed by Becs Andrews.

Get wrapped up in the excitement and emotions as their friendships blossom and strengthen, whilst life throws many obstacles in their paths, in what has been said to be ‘the funniest play to make you cry’.
