WELL-KNOWN Forfar bothy ballad singer Scott Gardiner is taking part in the first TradFest, which runs from April 24 to May 6 in Edinburgh.
TradFest marks a new phase of vigorous renewal of Scotland’s culture in its local, national and international relationships. Scott was brought up on a farm near Forfar and is best known for singing the bothy ballads and songs of the north-east, many of which he learned from Tam and Anne Reid of Cullerlie, Aberdeenshire.
Scott will be taking part in the Traditional Song Forum on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. This is a one-day conference on aspects of traditional song. This will be followed by an evening concert featuring local and visiting traditional singers, including Margaret Bennett and Scott. He will also feature in Bothy Nichts on Monday, May 6 from 7.30 p.m. to 10 p.m., a night of traditional treasures combining with contemporary voices.
