MARYKIRK Raft Race Committee is offering a change of pace over the festive period with a fund-raiser in aid of next year’s event.
If the turkey and Christmas TV become too much, the committee has organised an active alternative with a Twixtmas Extravaganza for Saturday, December 29, aimed at providing fun for all the family.
Held in Marykirk Hall, there will be games for young and old, a quiz, raffle, karaoke and even an attempt at the world record for eating Brussels sprouts. There will also be an auction of unwanted Christmas presents with the proceeds going to fund next year’s raft race so unwanted gifts can be taken along on the night.
As a late Christmas present for football fans, the raft race committee also has a football signed by the current Aberdeen FC team up for auction, bids for which can be left at the Marykirk Raft Race web-site at http://www.marykirkraftrace.com.
Entry to the event, which begins at 7pm, is free and while those attending can bring their own snacks and drinks, there will be mulled wine and mince pies.
Calendars featuring photos of competitors in the 2012 race are also available now for £5 from the Marykirk Hotel and Mearns Hardware on Laurencekirk High Street and proceeds will go towards next year’s race.
