‘Upcycle’ at Barnardo’s

THE LOCAL Barnardo’s shop, 172/4 High Street, has joined the charity’s national appeal for more stock - and in particular smart clothes.

Barnardo’s Scotland will be revealing the latest fashion glitz this week so that people can dress to impress without cutting into those all-important winter budgets.

For newcomers to ‘upcycling’ and eco-style, the trick is to find that hidden gem of a cast-off and re-fashion for your style, whether it’s adding appliqués, signature tailoring or going to town with fabric dye. Upcycling is the art of re-purposing unwanted items, and Barnardo’s Scotland’s shops provide the fashionista hunting ground.

The charity is asking the public to ‘blitz the glitz’ in their wardrobes and donate as the party season approaches.

Jane Pirie, area business manager, said: “Barnardo’s is famous for quality party wear and vintage clothing, but we need a constant supply of stock. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, we need people to donate party wear. Last year’s little black dress that doesn’t fit; party shoes that may be a little tight; or maybe an item from the sales and have never worn – by donating them to Barnardo’s you can help support vulnerable children.”
