THE SCOTTISH Ensemble will perform their Variations concert in the Caird Hall, Dundee on Monday, December 3.
The ancient and simple concept of variations is woven into an epic narrative, where earthly rhythms reach out towards the spiritual dimension.
This magical journey is a key reference for all composers, including Britten, whose international reputation was launched by his set of variations for string orchestra.
The programme for the Concerts by Candelight comprises Britten’s Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, and Bach’s Goldberg Variations which still have the power to enthrall audiences. The concert begins at 7.30 p.m.
The music continues at the Caird Hall with Slade and Sweet on Friday, December 14.
Throughout the seventies, Slade became one of Europe’s biggest bands, touring and recording continuously, whilst Sweet are a national treasure and a rock music phenomena.
They are the quintessential glam rock band who brought androgynous looks and crunching guitar pop to the masses.
