A former Royal Marine Commando is on the look out for a wedding dress - so that he can raise money for charity and win a wedding.
Nick McGaw (43), from Hillside, and his bride-to-be Moira (45), from Brechin, are set to get married for the second time after being entered in to a win-your-wedding competition by their 17-year-old daughter Ellie.
The couple originally married in 1997 but later divorced, and were apart for 12 years before reuniting.
Now, they are hoping to raise as much money as possible for Cash for Kids, including an Easter Sunday run which Nick plans to complete in a wedding gown.
The charity is a cause close to the couple’s heart as their eight-year-old nephew, Jon Leith-McGaw, who has Angelman Syndrome, was given money from the charity a few years ago to buy a special needs travel bed. Without this bed he wouldn’t be able to attend overnight respite care.
The competition, run by Radio Tay, will see six couples competing to raise the most amount of money for the charity during a fundraising week running from last Friday until Monday, March 28. The highest total will win.
Nick’s sister, Mairi Leith-McGaw, said of the couple’s fundraising plans: “We have Easter eggs to be raffled off in the Market Arms, Hillside Hotel, Hillside Post Office and Marykirk Hotel.
“Nick will also be running up the Cairn o’ Mount on Easter Sunday. He will meet his bride-to-be at the top and they will roll Easter eggs together before running back down. They will have treats for all the children they pass and who cheer them on. Nick will be doing this in a wedding dress!
“Angus Log Cabins have donated a children’s playhouse which will be raffled off.
“They are looking for sponsorship for these events and donations, so if anyone has an old wedding dress that might fit a 6’3 ex-marine..!
“Even if they don’t win a wedding they are really excited to be raising money for a cause that means so much to them.”
