MONTROSE Library will take part in World Book Night on Monday (April 23), from 5 to 7 p.m.
There will be a special event in each library, Monrose, Arbroath, Brechin, Carnoustie, Forfar, Kirriemuir and Monifieth.
World Book Night, the nation’s celebration of the reading, recommending and giving of books, is expected to see one million free books given away by passionate readers to other members of the public across the UK and Ireland.
Angus library staff will be gifting free World Book Night books to local readers on a first come first served basis.
Among the seven titles being given away in Angus are Joe Simpson’s ‘Touching the Void’, Kazuo Ishiguro’s ‘The Remains of the Day’, Sophie Kinsella’s ‘The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic’ and Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Road’.
Staff will welcome all readers, library members and non-members alike. New readers may take the opportunity to join and explore their local library on the night and everyone is invited to stay for refreshments.
World Book Night 2012 is being celebrated on UNESCO’s International Day of the Book which is also Shakespeare’s birthday. Each World Book Night title has a selection of Shakespeare’s sonnets featured on the back.
Co-ordinated by the National Reading Agency, World Book Night will give rise to a series of events around the country with over 11,996 book givers nationwide.
