WITH the big freeze wiping out the entire card in Scotland's lower divisions on Boxing Day, including Montrose FC's trip to Elgin, manager Steven Tweed took his men for a training session on Montrose beach.
Speaking on Monday Steven said: "We had a really good session on the beach and we will train again either Tuesday or Wednesday, weather permitting."
With their synthetic pitch, Montrose should be able to play host to Forfar Athletic in a New Year derby on Saturday, but with more snow forecast, together with very low temperatures, even that is uncertain.
"We are at the mercy of the weather, but we will be fully prepared, anticipating that the game will be on.
"We certainly want it to go ahead. Our hospitality is fully booked and it would be great to start the year with a home derby in front of a big crowd.
"Someone told me that it is 28 years since the weather was so bad for so long, so that is what we are up against."
Paul Watson has returned to Arbroath after his loan spell, but on the plus side, the manager hopes that Fraser Milligan will be fit enough to come back into contention for a place.
"Paul Tosh did well up front along with Stevie Nicholas against Queen's Park. They will play together again and hopefully see if they can forge a partnership."
With John Gemmell out with a back injury, the manager will look to Nicholas and Tosh to score goals after his side found the net twice at Hampden Park.
"We scored two good goals away from home in our last game, so it is something to build on.
"Tosh can play twice more as a trialist, then we will need to see if we can work something out which suits him.
"He is with us in the short-term and we will see how things pan out. He certainly adds a bit of experience to the side."
