WITH the promise of warm weather, Birnie Racing headed for Knockhill race circuit in Fife for rounds 3 and 4 of the Scottish Motorcycle Road Racing Championships.

Having won both the previous rounds of the production 600cc class on the all new Kawasaki ZX6-R supplied by Perth Motorcycles, Bruce was in a confident mode.

On top of this highly contested class Bruce was also entering the Supersport 600cc class on a Honda CBR-RR supplied by Jon Frost Construction Ltd. This class allows unlimited tuning and alterations to the bike.

Saturday's practice threw up the usual challenges in getting the bikes set up for the difficult and challenging Knockhill circuit, but it also highlighted that the newly rebuilt Honda engine was down by 10% on power compared to the other bikes in the class. The solution was found but unfortunately meant another engine rebuild, not something that could be done in time for the races.

Bruce took to the grid for the Supersport race having qualified 7th and fought hard in both the races to secure a 7th and 8th place.

Bruce said after the race: "It's not something to be happy about finishing off the podium but considering the power issue I rode the wheels off the bike to try and secure points. It handles beautifully so I just need a few more horses and I'll be up there challenging at the front. It is a bit gutting when bikes pull away from you on the straights and I pass them on the corners again".

In the production class Bruce had qualified third and in both races fought hard at the front of the pack securing two second places in what were very closely fought races. In the second race positions changed corner after corner in particular with Carnoustie rider Ryan Gibb.

Fortunately Bruce managed to secure 40 points from the two races and still leads the championship.

After the race Bruce said: "That was brilliant racing, it was so close and all credit to Michael Robertson for his wins, but what a bike this new Kawasaki is. It is just such a complete bike to ride and gives so much feedback. I just need to get more race time on it to ensure that it is me on the top step of the podium next time. Perth Motorcycles have prepared and provided a fantastic bike I just hope I can reward them with more fantastic racing and race wins".
