MONTROSE boss Jim Weir will send his men out on to the park at Dumbarton's Strathclyde Homes Stadium on Saturday, with the instruction - finish the job.

Montrose need a point for a place in the play-offs and the gaffer is fully confident that his men can get that point, or better still three.

"I'm disappointed we didn't clinch it against Forfar as we certainly had the chances to do so in the first half.

"We didn't play our best and we had a big player out in Garry Wood, but we still deserved to win the game.

"We face another tough game at Dumbarton and we have players missing through suspension, but the guys who come in will do a job.

"A place in the play-offs has been in our own hands for a long time. Arbroath and Elgin are in with a shout, but we want to finish as high as possible. We need a point, but I want to take three."

Keith Gibson left the field with a hamstring problem against Forfar and he and Wood will be given every chance to make the clash with the Sons.

"I left Garry out on Saturday in the hope he would be ready for this week.

"We are a bit thin on the ground and we need to keep as many players as possible healthy."

Weir was unhappy with the defensive frailty of his side, after they lost a late goal to Forfar.

"I was disappointed with the goals we lost and the sending-off was a killer as well as it put us on the back foot.

"I told Chris Hegarty that it doesn't matter whether he only committed two fouls all match. He was on a yellow card and treading a thin line and he has to learn to keep people in front of him rather than go diving in the way he did.

"We were holding on well to our 2-1 lead. We had fought well in the second half and our effort was teriffic, then we switched off when they took a quick corner. We shouldn't be losing goals like that.

"I keep making excuses about having young players, but they have to grow up fast.

"Their first goal was a foul on Mark Peat. Mark has a big lump on his eye. The referee said it might have been one of his own players that did it, but why would one of my players elbow their keeper?

"Some of the referee's decisions baffled me and I think they baffled both teams.

"Keepers usually get protected and why that wasn't judged to be a foul is beyond me."

The game produced a host of bookings, nine including the double booking for Hegarty, but the manager felt there wasn't a bad tackle in the game. He noted that the same referee was in charge for the game against Arbroath, which also featured a sizeable crime count.

"There is still a lot of work to do. We have three games to go and still need a point and I am struggling for bodies to put in the team."

Hegarty is banned for a game and Chris McLeod is banned for three games, through to the end of the regulation season.

"The result was a hard one to take and we should have been able to see the game out.

"We could have been three up at half-time as John Baird missed a hatful of chances, but we just have to accept it and get on with it."

Montrose would like to overhaul Stranraer before the end of the season and finish second in the table, but the manager refuses to look that far ahead.

"Our target has been the play-offs all along. We want to secure our place in them this weekend and see where it takes us."
