Golf Inn 3 Black Abbot 1

GOLF Inn added the Matrix Cup to the Piggins Cup which they won two months previously, by beating Black Abbot in the final at Broomfield Park.

Golf Inn threatened in two minutes when a Millar free-kick was saved by Wands, then at the other end, Ritchie headed over from a Wrench corner.

In 11 minutes, a Lownie free-kick came off an Abbot head and Page headed wide.

In 13 minutes, Golf Inn keeper Elgin was penalised for infringing the six second rule, then was booked for throwing the ball away. From the free-kick, Wrench shot into the defensive wall.

Golf Inn broke upfield and Coull was booked for dissent after he was given offside.

A Keddie header was saved by Elgin, then a Wrench shot was deflected over.

In 20 minutes, Wrench headed across goal and Young headed wide, then a long ball from Wrench released Keddie and Elgin saved with his feet.

Abbot had been the better side in the opening exchanges, but in 24 minutes, Golf Inn took the lead. Millar headed the ball forward and Jardine was brought down by Ricky Allen who was sent off for his last-man foul. Jamie Lownie scored from the spot.

Abbot attacked and a Wrench shot was well saved by Elgin, then Reid went on a run and his shot was saved by Wands.

Ten man Abbot continued to press and Young shot just wide, then an angled drive from Clayton was saved.

Golf Inn stretched their lead in 43 minutes with the best move of the game. Reid put Millar in and his cutback was fired high into the net by Andy Jardine.

Abbot had it all to do, but they made the running at the start of the second half. A Wrench corner was tipped over under pressure by Elgin, then the keeper saved a first-time effort from Harrison.

Robertson had a shot saved, then in 68 minutes, Wrench was booked for a lunge at Millar.

Two minutes later, Mustard hooked the ball over the bar from a Clayton cross.

Abbot manager Bryan Gall was sent from the dugout for his remarks, then a Clayton shot just cleared the bar and Clayton was booked for his remarks in claiming a corner.

Carnegie had a header from a corner saved, then Robertson was added to the Abbot bookings tally for a foul.

Abbot gave themselves some hope with a goal 12 minutes from time when Keddie crossed from the byeline for Ricky Mustard to score.

Hopes of a fightback were dashed just a minute later when Paul Duncan ran clear with Abbot asking for offside and rounded Wands to make it 3-1.

As time ran out, Taylor became the fourth Abbot booking, for dissent.

Black Abbot: Wands, Taylor, Harrison (Duncan), Allen, Robertson, Clayton, Ritchie, Carnegie, Keddie, Young (Mustard), Wrench (Thornton). Subs: Webster, Braes.
