MONTROSE boss Jim Weir says there is a lot of work still to be done, as his men edge ever-closer to a place in the play-offs.
"There are still four games left and teams could make inroads into our advantage," said Jim.

"We must take care of our own job, starting against Forfar on Saturday. We will look to go into the game with the same attitude as against Stenhousemuir, but this time start a bit better.

"Four points out of the remaining 12 would guarantee us a place in the play-offs. Even if we win on Saturday we might not quite be there, unless other results go our way."

Montrose have had mixed fortunes against Forfar this season, they won convincingly, 4-1 away in September, crashed to a surprise 1-0 defeat at Links Park in December, then drew 1-1 back at Station Park in February.

"Forfar are a much improved side recently and have had some good results in the last four to six weeks.

"It is a derby and they have a number of ex-Montrose players in their ranks who will want to make it difficult for us."

Barry Donachie, Neil Stephen, Steve Kerrigan, Martyn Fotheringham, Elliot Smith and Sandy Wood could all feature in the Loons side against their former team.

Weir has his injury problems for the derby clash and Garry Wood and Steven Doris, who went off injured against Stenhousemuir, are both struggling to make it. Roddy Hunter has a thigh problem and Steven Thomson is still out.

Ross Gardiner is itching to get back in after being suspended for a game after being sent off for a hand-ball against Forfar in the Forfarshire Cup.

"With Ross out, my defence did well against East Fife and I felt they deserved another chance.

"A draw between Elgin and Arbroath might have been best for us but it wasn't to be. We now have to beat Forfar and see if something goes our way."

Weir praised the "True Grit" of his side, after they held on to claim three vital points against Stenhousemuir.

"It was a performance of character to go a goal down and come back to win as we haven't done that too many times this season.

"Steven Doris scored with a great header after some good play and I'm delighted with our effort.

"We should have killed the game off as we created quite a few chances. We fully deserved to win the game, but we were only one goal ahead in the closing stages and they went with four up front, so I was delighted to see the game out.

"Steven Doris had a swollen knee and didn't train on Thursday, but he was desparate to play.

"Young Craig Forsyth was first-class. He has a wee bit to learn in terms of defending, but he has great energy and is a real athlete.

"He sends his crosses in with pace and he created two or three opportunities for us.

"Steven Ferguson was causing us problems playing just off the front, so I asked Hugh Davidson to play as a sitting midfielder to combat that.

"We hit the woodwork a couple of times and overall we were teriffic. We are a young side who have had to learn fast."

Jim hasn't given any thought as to whether there is any advantage in finishing second, third or fourth. He just wants to reach the play-offs and will take what comes.

If Montrose were to finish second, they would be at home in the second leg of the play-off semi-final, against the team finishing third.
