MONTROSE narrowly lost out on Saturday in a Midlands league match against high flying BHSFP, who currently sit second in the league.
Despite out scoring the visitors by 2 tries to 1, four penalties by BHSFP sealed the points on another wet and windy afternoon at Union Park.

Although the squad was reduced from the high of the previous week, available numbers were enough to both
play the fixture and to field a competitive team, a scenario which will hopefully continue and improve until the end of the season.

Montrose's tries came via Chris Allison (5 mins) after some smart forward play resulted in the hard hitting vet scoring in the corner.

Montrose's second score after 65 minutes came as a result of great turnover ball secured by on form Marc Scoular, and some Fijian flair in the back line by Andy Baxter allowed Sam Grove-White to score in the corner to the delight of the Montrose crowd.

Despite the conditions, this was one of the most entertaining matches of the season so far at Union Park and was one of the most physical for sometime, with both teams showing visible signs of some of the thunderous collisions which occured in the second half.

Next weekend the side are away to old foes Bannockburn, which is always one of highlights of any season. Senior training has started again, and takes place at Union Park on Tuesday nights between 7-8.30pm.
