A RARE goal from Hugh Davidson helped Montrose on their way to a Scottish Cup victory over Huntly, but the midfielder said that all that mattered was that his side got through.
Davidson said: "It was a vital goal and I don't remember the last time I scored, something which the lads have been quick to remind me.
"That is my first this season and I didn't score at all last campaign.
"The old manager used me more in a sitting midfield role but I like to get forward, so I hope to be able to do a bit more attacking.
"The important thing was we got through. It was a big game for the club as we could benefit financially by reaching the next round.
"The conditions were a lottery and I haven't played in as bad a wind as that during my time at the club.
"We had played against the elements and were 1-0 up, so it wouldn't have been fair to abandon the game."
The experienced midfielder says morale is picking up among the players after the turmoil which followed the departure of Jim Weir.
"The boys were a bit down, but David Hannah has come in and he showed his organisational skill at the back.
"We are a young side, so he will bring experience to our defence.
"The league is the most important thing for us. We lost last week, but we are still only five points off the top."
