MONTROSE pole vault star Gregor MacLean is off to Loughbrough University to further his vaulting career, with the aim of making the 2012 Olympics or the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Before he left for the UK's centre of sporting excellence, Gregor popped into Uppercut Hair for Men in Murray Street to receive sponsorship of £100.

The cheque was presented by a partner in the business, Kathryn Fenton and hairdresser Tracy Dryburgh.

Gregor (18) will train with Alan Richardson, one of the country's top pole vault coaches.

He is confident that full-time training will help him towards his Olympic and Commonwealth goals.
