MONTROSE boss Jim Weir will take no chances with his "walking wounded" as he tries to ensure that he has a fully-fit squad available for the play-off semi-finals.

Mark Peat, Keith Gibson and Garry Wood should all be fit for the double header with Stranraer and even long-term absentee Stephen Thomson could be available to play a part if required.

"I'm very hopeful Garry Wood could be ready for East Stirling this Saturday, but no chances will be taken with anyone," said Jim.

"Stephen Thomson will train this week and I may decide to give him a bit of playing time at East Stirling.

"Roddy Hunter had the 'flu last week, so he missed out against Elgin, but I hope to have my strongest available squad for the Stranraer games.

"I want to win at East Stirling and end the regular season on 62 points, having gone eight games unbeaten.

"It won't be easy down there and I will definitely tinker with my squad with an eye on the following Wednesday. No matter which players I use, they are capable of doing a job.

"Mark Peat injured an ankle, so Stuart McKenzie came in and did ok against Elgin.

"We must now approach the East Stirling game in the right manner, then prepare ourselves mentally for two massive games against Stranraer.

"I hope the Montrose public turn out and support their team as a chance of promotion doesn't come around too often.

"Some of my players haven't played in a two-legged tie before and I will impress on them that they don't have to win it in the first ten minutes. The tie is likely to go all the way to the last kick of the ball in the second leg."

Weir praised the character of his side as they kept their morale at a high, by digging out a victory over Elgin.

"I thought we started really well and were well on top. We caught them on the break two or three times and Steven Doris and Paul Stewart were both unlucky.

"We deservedly took the lead, then they were awarded a soft free-kick for their equaliser, but it was a great finish from the boy.

"The goal gave them a lift and at the start of second half they were the better side.

"They needed to win and went with four up, while our final pass wasn't great.

"We managed to go 2-1 in front and were holding on towards the end.

"I have a tight squad, but they are all prepared to die for the cause. It would have been nice to rest one or two before the play-offs, but it wasn't possible.

"To go on and win after they equalised so late showed tremendous character.

"One or two of the lads who played have been out of the team recently. They have been waiting for their chance and I can't praise them enough.

"It all comes down to a double header against Stranraer and they will be very difficult games.

"We are unbeaten in seven games, so we are on a teriffic run. My lads don't know when to give up."
