MONTROSE came back down to earth with a bump on Saturday after a 4-0 defeat against Berwick Rangers.
Following a run of excellent results, including a 2-1 win over Queen’s Park at Hampden the previous Saturday, Stuart Garden’s side were confident as they entered the league clash.
But after going down 1-0 before the break much worse was to come before the final scoreline of 4-0.
Montrose boss Garden said: “There was never four goals in that game.
“To be honest I think for the first 60 minutes we were by far the better side but the conditions and the pitch were horrendous.
“Two of the goals were mistakes on our part.
“And I wasn’t too happy with the performance of the refereeing either.
“Berwick were not better than us, it was just one of those days.”
There was some good news for Montrose this week, however, when loan signing Martin Boyle was named Irn-Bru Phenomenal Young Player of the Month for February.
Boyle, who has been back on loan at Montrose from Dundee since January, said: “It’s absolutely great to get the award, I didn’t expect to get it at all so I’m really chuffed.
“We are doing really well right now and have a strong position in the play offs so hopefully we can keep that going.”
Garden added: “Obviously Martin really deserves the award. He’s come in and scored a few goals for us. He’s looked sharp and done a good job.”
Looking ahead, Montrose FC have announced their dates for the sale of tickets to supporters for the match against Rangers on Saturday, March 30: today (Thursday, March 14 from 6 to 7.30pm, season ticket holders only); Saturday, March 16, from 10 to 11.30am; Monday, March 18 from 6 to 7.30pm; Wednesday, March 20 from 6 to 7.30pm.

This Saturday the Gable Endies will welcome Peterhead to Links Park with a 3pm kick-off.
Garden said: “Peterhead is always a big game for us. We are six points ahead of them with seven games to go so obviously we will be looking for a good result.”
