AFTER holding league leaders Alloa for 79 minutes without the ball having crossed the goal-line at either end, the wheels came off in the final 10 minutes on Saturday and the visitors departed gratefully with all three points safely tucked away in their luggage.

Gable Endies’ manager Ray Farningham was disappointed with the outcome, particularly because Alloa were reduced to 10 men in only 19 minutes.

He said he felt his team actually played better against the full-strength side than they did after the enforced reduction.

The Montrose side had plenty of possession early on, but were unable to turn that into goals. And in the second half, there were no attempts on the Alloa goal.

On Saturday, the Gable Endies travel to Balmoor Park, to play a Peterhead side which has gifted six points to the Gable Endies this season, while collecting only three.

The men from the Blue Toon are just a place above Montrose in the league, although the margin is 11 points.
