Buchan Ladies Youth 1

Luthermuir WFC 1

Luthermuir WFC travelled to Buchan last Wednesday hoping for another win in the Scottish Women’s League Second Division North.

They had had a good victory against Dee Ladies the previous week.

Luthermuir started slowly and Buchan were the first team to create a chance; on four minutes a shot from 20 yards was fired goalwards but it was handled well by Charles.

The next chance fell on 10 minutes when a great ball in behind the back line was collected by Lownie but her shot from 18 yards was saved. For the next 10 minutes the game was pretty even with neither team creating any goal scoring chances.

The breakthrough came on 24 minutes. A corner out far on the left was fired to the back post and headed back across to goal from the Buchan attacker. It looked like it was going wide but was deflected in.

This gave the home side the upper hand and on 26 minutes they had another great chance when the midfielder picked up the ball 30 yards out and cut into the box before firing just over. Over the next five minutes a succession of free kicks out on the right was fired towards goal but Charles handled well.

On 32 minutes a ball down the left wing by Bruce was collected by Lownie and as she cut inside her mark she fired but the ‘keeper saved well.

Luthermuir gained a corner on 35 minutes and Murison worked a one-two with Bruce before laying it back to Brough but her shot was blocked and cleared.

The final chance of the half came on 41 minutes when the Buchan attacker cut inside Nicol but her shot fizzed by.

Half-time: Buchan Ladies, Luthermuir 0.

Luthermuir started the second half looking to get back in the game and head down the road with all three points. On 49 minutes a foul on Bruce resulted in a free kick which she fired past from 25 yards.

On 52 minutes, collecting from a Murison corner, Boyack rose unmarked but headed over the bar. Within a minute there was another foul on Lownie and Bruce stepped up again but shot wide.

A great through ball from Boyack three minutes later had Murison bearing down on goal but her shot went straight at the ‘keeper.

Luthermuir were pushing for the equaliser and Nicol came off for Walker to freshen up the team. On 58 minutes there was a ball over the top and Murison was away down the left. She was fouled as she tried to cut inside the defender. Bruce fired it to the back post but Godsall headed wide.

Luthermuir then brought off Murray for Young and within a few minutes it nearly paid off. Murison played the ball through to Young but she fired her shot at the ‘keeper.

On 64 minutes Murison had another chance but she pulled her shot wide from the edge of the box. Luthermuir were dominating their opponents and very rarely did Buchan get out of their own half.

With 20 minutes to play a great ball in behind the back line from Young had Calder racing towards goal but her shot was well saved.

Luthermuir continued to push and chances fell to Lownie, Murison and Bruce but they could not get by the Buchan ‘keeper who was in fine form.

Pressure paid off eventually when the equaliser came in 82 minutes. A foul on Bruce out on the right was fired into the box by Brough. Murison flicked on and Boyack ghosted in at the back post to head over the ‘keeper.

Luthermuir quickly went on the attack again trying for all three points. They created more chances as the Buchan team tired but they couldn’t find that final touch, with chances being missed.

The final chance fell on 89 minutes when Godsall took a throw-in deep in the Buchan half and Murison flicked it on to Boyack but her shot went wide.
