Annan defeat a minor setback

saturday’s loss against Annan Athletic was just a bump in the road for Montrose’s league campaign according to manager Stuart Garden, writes Sarah McLean.

However, the Gable Endies are still in the play-off spots on equal points with Peterhead.

Garden said: “The result was disappointing for us especially after the performance against Peterhead - which I think was our best all season.

“But Galabank is always a difficult ground to go to and I don’t think too many teams have done well there this season.

“Annan started well and were much better than us for the first 10 minutes but we came into the game more after that and I think we were better.

“We had a good few chances, Terry Masson hit the woodwork at one point and I think the outcome would have been different if it had gone in.

“Then the two goals that Annan had in the second half were down to bad defending from us.

“We got back into the game towards the end with a goal from Garry Wood but despite a few chances we never really tested their ‘keeper much.”

Now Montrose are looking ahead to Saturday’s home game against Clyde who are currently sitting eighth in the Third Division.

Garden said: “Hopefully we will pick up three points against Clyde, we will be looking for a good result and give a performance like the one against Peterhead.”

Garden has few injury troubles at the moment with hopes that Jamie Winter and Scott Morton will be available for Saturday.

Meanwhile, Paul Lunan is on his way back from long-term injury and has started training.

While Garden has not yet made any signings during this transfer window he has hopes of bringing in one or two new faces.
