JOHNSHAVEN Athletic travelled to Rothienorman, north of Inverurie, with only 13 players available for selection.
In the opening minutes McKellar went down the right wing and sent in a low hard cross, which forced the Rothie ‘keeper to dive off his line and save.
Not long after this R. Blease played the ball through to L. Dundas who beat the offside trap and shot past the advancing ‘keeper, but it just skimmed past the post.
In the 18th minute a Johnshaven throw-in by McKellar found L. Dundas who played it across to R. Blease who passed out wide to Jason Leven who hit an unstoppable shot past the diving Rothie keeper to put Johnshaven in the lead.
In the 37th minute an indirect free kick by Rothie was played quickly up the park and chipped over the Johnshaven defence. One of the home players ran in and hit a low shot past the diving Johnshaven ‘keeper for the equaliser.
Just two minutes later the visitors were forced to make their first substitution when Darryl Smith replaced an injured Ryan Ritchie
In the 43rd minute Rothie went down the right and sent in a diagonal cross. The outstretched leg of a Johnshaven defender caused the ball to deflect past his ‘keeper for an own goal to put the homesters in the lead.
Johnshaven made their second substitution at half-time when Alexander Bruce replaced an injured Aaron Welsh.
In the 47th minute Johnshaven were on the attack when McKellar went down the right and slipped the ball through to L. Dundas. He pushed it inside to Scott Beedie who, from close range, shot high into the net for the equaliser.
Six minutes later, from a well-worked free kick Rothie played the ball over the Johnshaven four-man wall. A Rothie player ran on and slipped it past the diving Johnshaven keeper MacLean to put them back in the lead 3-2.
On the hour mark a 25-yard direct free kick by Rothie was curled round the Johnshaven wall, but ‘keeper Jarred MacLean held under pressure from an incoming Rothie player.
In the 85th minute Rothie Rovers were reduced to 10 men when they had a player sent off.
Just after this Johnshaven played the ball to the edge of the six-yard box where R. Blease with his outstretched leg got a touch, but could not direct it into the net.
In the dying seconds of injury time Johnshaven were awarded a direct free kick just inside the Rothie half. Every Johnshaven player with the exception of the ‘keeper was in the crowded Rothie 18-yard box. Jack Dalgarno played in a high ball. It needed no further help from his team-mates as it bounced and eluded the opposition as it went into the net to give Johnshaven a well deserved point.
