Cans mean pounds!

FROM Saturday’s game against Annan (February 23), Montrose FC fans and members of the community are urged to get behind their club to help score a share of cash for their youth teams.

Now in its second season, Cans for Youth Teams is a club investment initiative from IRN-BRU and the Scottish Football League (SFL) which awards each of the 30 teams in the SFL a share of a £70,000 prize fund. The more IRN-BRU cans collected by Gable Endies supporters, the larger the share their club receives. £10,000 is available for the top club from each division.

Cans for Youth Teams collection bins will be placed at Links Park Stadium and participating local stores and key venues in the community, allowing members of the public out shopping or fans attending a game to drop in their empty IRN-BRU cans before the cut-off date of Saturday, May 4.

The IRN-BRU bus will be stopping off at Links Park for the match against Annan Athletic.

Last year’s Cans for Youth Teams’ division winners have each already reaped their benefits of the £10,000 prize money. Hamilton Academicals, Cowdenbeath and Alloa have been able to invest in Youth Development staff, extra scouts and training kits for their youth teams.

Martin Steele, Senior Brand Manager for IRN-BRU, said: “IRN-BRU believes that the continued success of Scottish football lies in developing the players of tomorrow. That’s why we are committed to continuing our Cans for Youth Teams initiative in 2013 and investing another £70,000 in Scotland’s national sport.”

Supporters can follow their team’s progress this year through the Cans for Youth Teams League Table which will be issued to press and available online at

The final league table will be unveiled at the IRN-BRU SFL Phenomenal End of Season Awards due to take place on May 23.
