Entertaining draw a fair result

Turriff United 3

Luthermuir WFC 3

Luthermuir WFC travelled to Turriff last Sunday hoping to continue the form that saw them score four against Forfar in the Scottish Women’s Football League 2nd Division North the weekend before.

The visitors attacked from the kick-off. Brough played the ball over the back line for Lownie to race in on goal, but her shot was well saved.

Luthermuir made the break through on four minutes when Hendry won the ball in midfield and played low behind the back line for LOWNIE who coolly rounded the ‘keeper and fired home.

Turriff had been slow to get going but Charles handled well in goal. On 16 minutes a ball down the left from Godsall was collected by Coutts and she cut inside her defender before firing a shot which the ‘keeper held well.

Turriff got back on level terms when a ball over the back line was missed by Middleton and GRAY collected before firing low past Charles. Brough was replaced by Nicol after picking up a hip knock.

A foul on Lownie on 37 minutes was fired into the box by Hendry where the ‘keeper pushed it out; Coutts reacted first but fired wide.

Just before half-time Turriff took the lead when a pass from the midfield reached GRAY who fired home.

Half-time: Turriff 2, Luthermuir 1.

Luthermuir were level in 52 minutes when good work on the edge of the box by Coutts and Boyack created space for CALDER who rifled a shot which the ‘keeper could not hold.

The visitors won a corner on 60 minutes and Murison fired high into the six yard box where BOYACK rose above everyone to head into the net.

The home team began to press and in 77 minutes broke the visitors’ stout resistance. A free kick 20 yards out down the right was fired over the wall by GRAY and straight in the top corner for her hat-trick.

On 82 minutes Coutts came off for Crichton.

There was little further action and a draw was a fair result.
