‘FIFA’ formation saves the day

Black Abbot 4 Fordoun Galaxy 2

BOTH Thomson and Deans had chances for Fordoun on Thursday before McCOMISKIE gave the visitors the lead in 35 minutes. In the last attack of the half Hector and McComiskie both hit the woodwork.

Half-time: Black Abbot 0. Fordoun Galaxy 1.

The Abbot won a free kick on the right. When the ball arrived in the box it was converted to level the score.

There was a moment of controversy as a foul by Cruickshank which seemed to be outside the box was given as a penalty and the Abbot converted

It was 3-1 to the Abbot shortly later as they broke up the park, beat the offside trap and scored. Cruickshank saw red after a second booking. A fourth Abbot goal killed the contest but KEDDIE pulled one back.

Fordoun: I. Welsh, A. Stirling, Cruickshank, Cuthill, Pirie, Deans (Murray), R Stirling, Keddie, Hector, Thomson (R. Welsh) and McComiskie.

Fordoun Galaxy 5 City Royal 2

FORDOUN made a great start on Sunday with R. WELSH curling home a free kick after nine minutes.

Five minutes later Royal got the ball to their big forward who was unmarked in the box and finished well to equalise. Royal went ahead when a defensive lapse saw the same player one-on-one with I. Welsh and again he finished well.

For the second time in a week Galaxy found themselves behind after taking the lead but this time they found their way back. McComiskie burst into the box before being fouled giving HECTOR the chance to equalise from the spot.

Half-time: Fordoun 2, City Royal 2.

The task got harder for Fordoun when McComiskie was given two quick yellows and was sent off. Fordoun made a double change and switched to a 3-4-2 formation. Manager Mark Forbes later explained he used this formation on FIFA when his team was reduced to 10 men and he always won.

Third Fordoun substitute MURRAY scored a brilliant half volley. Murray turned provider when he beat his man to reach the bye line, cut inside and squared for TOUGH (who had galloped the length of the pitch) to tap in.

THOMSON added a fifth to make the game safe before Tough showed why he’s a fans’ favourite with a stunning scorpion kick.

Fordoun: I. Welsh, Norrie (Pearson), Cuthill, Tough, Pirie, Deans, R. Stirling, R. Welsh (Thomson), Hector, Keddie (Murray) and McComiskie.
