Five-goal Mo sink struggling Annan

MONTROSE have enjoyed two excellent wins in a row following their 5-1 victory over Annan Athletic on Saturday, writes Sarah McLean.

The result came on the back of a 4-1 win over Elgin City, also a home game, the previous weekend.

Four goals came from Martin Boyle, who is back at the Gable Endies on loan from Dundee FC until the end of the season.

Jamie Winter also found the back of the net with a penalty in the first half.

Montrose boss Stuart Garden was delighted with his team’s performance, especially scorer Boyle. He said: “I think we played really well, especially in the first half.

“It was really over by half-time.

“I thought Martin played really well obviously. He’s got great movement and pace and we’ve got boys in the team that can pass well to him.”

He added: “We are very lucky to have him here. He belongs to Dundee but they can’t have him back.

“John Brown can call me if he wants ... but he’s not getting him until the summer!”

Annan boss Jim Chapman said: “Individual errors cost us today.

“Montrose had six chances and scored five, that tells its own story.”

This Saturday, Montrose will travel to Hampden to face Queen’s Park.

The Spiders are currently sitting second in the Third Division table with 40 points behind Rangers who have 62.

Montrose have 38 points, just two behind the Hampden side but Queen’s Park have three games in hand.

Garden said: “It will be a big game for us. We are two teams that are playing well at the moment so it should be a good game.

“Hopefully the big open space at Hampden will suit us well.”
