THE GOLF Inn entertained City Royal from Brechin at Broomfield Park on a fine but windy Sunday morning.
After winning seven on the trot, the home side wanted to keep their impressive start to the season going, and it only took five minutes before they took the lead.
Millar passed the ball back to Soutar out wide, who whipped in a cross which found Gavin REID and he powered the ball into the net from 12 yards.
Golf Inn stretched their lead five minutes later. Elgin kicked from his goal-line over the top of the City Royal defence and Duncan CROALL ran through and slotted past the ‘keeper.
Only 15 minutes were on the clock when the Golfy made it three. Andy Jardine passed to CLARKE who skipped past a defender before majestically chipping over the ‘keeper into the net.
City Royal were yet to get their foot in the match, the wind going against them in the first half possibly not helping their cause.
The goal rush did slow down but it wasn’t for long. In the 35th minute the Golf Inn made it four when Reid slipped through Martin COULL who rounded the ‘keeper before passing into an empty net.
There was time for more chances for the Golf Inn before the interval. CLARKE tried a 20-yard shot in the 40th minute. It deflected off a City Royal defender, ending up in the bottom corner to make it 5-0.
And just two minutes later Millar went on a mazy run, skipping past three City Royal players and displaying delightful skills. As he ran through he passed the keeper and with a two-yard open goal staring at him he hit the post, denying himself a chance at Goal of the Season and guaranteeing himself Miss of the Season.
Half-time: Golf Inn 5, City Royal 0.
The second half started like the first ended, with the home side on the front foot.
In 55 minutes MILLAR slotted home the Golfy’s sixth after Jardine had cut the ball back for the midfielder.
City Royal’s one shot of the match came in the 60th minute, Elgin pulling off a sensational stop from a 30-yard strike and tipping the ball onto the bar.
Golf Inn rang the changes before the seventh goal hit the net. A superb drilled cross from Reid was headed home by JARDINE, surprisingly his second header of the season already.
It should have been eight moments later when Martin Coull went down the wing and cut the ball back to Gray, but embarrassingly the defender scooped the ball over the bar from six yards.
With 10 minutes to play the eighth goal did come along. Millar slipped the ball through to MADDOCK who scooped it over the advancing ‘keeper.
The Golf Inn controlled the game from the off and got the three points they deserved to keep their unbeaten start to the season going.
