Golf Inn’s second half display wins the points

THE PICTURE House entertained the Golf Inn at Broomfield Park on a wet and windy Sunday morning.

The early kick-off seemed to suit the Golfy who started the first few minutes brightly and should have been leading early.

After a bright start the Picture House got their foot in the game, but it was the visitors who were first to put the ball in the net.

A Gavin Reid corner was headed home by Jardine but the referee disallowed the goal, the ball seemingly having left the field of play in the delivery.

Picture House opened the scoring however, when a corner was cleared only as far as their winger who curled the ball into the top corner from 30 yards.

The Golf Inn controlled the rest of the half, but the Picture House held well in defence until the 42nd minute when the ball was slipped out wide to REID who went past the full back and blasted an excellent strike into the roof of the net.

Half-time: Picture House 1, Golf Inn 1.

Golf Inn rallied at half-time and one minute into the second half they got the goal to put them into the lead. Millar played through JARDINE who slipped the ball past the ‘keeper.

The Golf Inn continued to pressurise their hosts. Soutar should have done better from a header from eight yards but he headed just wide. The pressure continued on the Picture House defence throughout, but it took until the 65th minute before Clarke turned the ball into the path of REID who smashed it into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

The Picture House clawed one back not long after when a ball over the top took an awkward bounce evading Page, and the Picture House striker ran through to slot over the top of the advancing Elgin.

It didn’t take long for the Golf Inn to restore their two-goal advantage when, minutes later, Clarke slipped through BARKER and the pacey winger fired the ball past the helpless Picture House goalkeeper.

The Golf Inn stood strong in the last 15 minutes. Millar nearly increased the lead with a 20-yard shot which smashed into the crossbar late on.

Millar should’ve seen red in the dying minutes for a slap but somehow was only given a yellow, the victim’s over-reaction maybe saving him.

Man of the Match was Gavin Reid.

Golf Inn: Elgin, G. Soutar, Lamb, Coull (Gray 75), Page, Barker, Clarke, Millar, Reid, Croall and Jardine (Young 85).
