Great win for Merpro over Harp

MERPRO welcomed rivals Logie Harp for Saturday’s Premier League match. Logie were runers-up to Merpro last season in Division One.

Merpro controlled most of the match but found a compact Logie side difficult to break down and happy to hit on the break.

Whitworth created a good chance with a long ball forward for Graham to latch onto but his lob went well over the bar.

Half-time: Merpro 0, Logie 0.

Craig Allan tested the ‘keeper with an edge of the box shot.

The home side was stunned on the hour to be hit on the break from their own free kick and in covering the attack gave away a free kick on the edge of their own box.

This kick failed to be marked properly and Logie headed home from close range for an easy goal to go ahead in a match where they had rarely threatened.

Merpro’s self-destruction con-tinued when Whitworth was sent off after a second bookable offence in 65 minutes.

From seeming well in control of the match the home side were under pressure and Logie looked to finish off the match. Merpro stabilised and began to fight back.

Craig Allan drove forward and drilled in a low shot just wide of the post in 75 minutes.

Merpro were now again forcing the match and got their deserved reward in the 82nd minute.

Allan floated in a dangerous free kick across the goal, challenged by Lownie and a defender with neither getting a touch, but Ally Duff ran in to chest the ball into the net from five yards.

Logie were now the team stunned and Merpro were now galvanised and forced pressure on the ‘keeper but he managed to recover fumbling a corner kick in 84 minutes.

Merpro’s late fightback was further rewarded with three minutes to play when Rhys Greig latched onto a clearance on the edge of the box to drill in a low shot under the ‘keeper to take the Montrose side into the lead.

Logie attempted to hit back and Lownie did well with a headed clearance in 89 minute.

Merpro almost went further ahead in injury time when the energetic Duncan did well in evading the defence and ran through in on goal but as he drew the ‘keeper out his 18-yard shot drifted wide.

Logie pushed forward but Merpro held out to record a spirited win after being reduced to 10 men.
