Paul Hegarty is hopeful of signing popular midfielder Paul Watson to a new Montrose contract in the next few days.
Watson had been training and playing without a signed deal as he looked to prove his fitness to the Gable Endies boss following a torrid injury battle last season.
And Hegarty has been very impressed - but in no way surprised - by the player’s commitment to the task as Watson has worked himself into great shape.
The Links Park boss is also close to adding the signature of another player this week.
He said: “Paul Watson is very likely to sign, along with another player, this week and it’s great news for the club that Paul will be here for another year.
“He’s a great influence on and off the park. It’s credit to his attitude and application that he’s got himself back to near full fitness. He’s worked extremely hard over the last two months.”
Not joining Watson or any potential newbies though is Ross McCord, who was working on his fitness similarly to his fellow midfielder but has since decided to pursue other opportunities.
McCord leaves Links Park with the manager’s best wishes.
Hegarty said: “Ross McCord has decided to head off for pastures new, he feels that he wants to go and try elsewhere. We wish him all the best, wherever he goes.
“The real ball comes out on Saturday and we’re looking to try and get results under our belt. I know Jim McIntyre and I know he’s professional and thorough, so they will be very prepared and they’re Premiership class and the League Cup holders.
“But we’ll work hard as well and look to get something.”
