Hillside do the double over Galaxy

Hillside 4

Fordoun Galaxy 3

It WAS a typical Sunday morning at Broomfield with the players and fans having to contend with a gusting wind and hailstone showers.

The home side coped best with the conditions and raced into a three-goal lead.

The first came in nine minutes when a wind-assisted long ball caused problems in the Fordoun defence and the Hillside attacker beat Milne to break the deadlock.

Fordoun had chances but failed to convert them. N. Keddie went round the ‘keeper before sending a shot over.

In 20 minutes it was two when a cross from the left was helped into the top corner by the wind.

McComiskie went one-on-one with the ‘keeper but his shot was saved by the Hillside number one.

Fordoun had big appeals for offside turned away as Hillside made it three with a home attacker latching on to another long ball.

Fordoun did pull one back just before the interval when N. KEDDIE scored from the spot.

Half-time: Hillside 3, Fordoun Galaxy 1.

With the wind at their backs Fordoun hoped to get back into the game in the second half but neither side created many chances in the early exchanges.

Fordoun used all three substitutes before an hour had been played and the changes brought their second goal.

With 78 minutes played the ball broke to THOMSON inside the 18-yard box and he finished well.

Hillside didn’t take long to restore their-two goal lead and a short goal-kick was snapped up before the attacker was sent in on goal where he made no mistake.

Fordoun were creating more chances at last, winning corners and forcing the home ‘keeper into some decent saves.

But 89 minutes had passed before they got another goal when DUNCAN calmly rolled the ball into the bottom corner.

The visitors forced one last corner in stoppage time but Hillside stood firm and held on for the win which puts them on the 24-point mark alongside Fordoun.

Fordoun: Milne, Norrie (Murray), Duncan, Cuthill, Anderson, Deans (Thomson), N. Keddie, R. Stirling, D. Cruickshank, McLaren (Cargill), and McComiskie.
