Montrose Football Club have appointed John Crawford as interim chairman of the Gable Endies following Derek Sim’s decision to step down as chairman and director.
Since Mr Sim decided to relinquish the post, the club has moved quickly to fill the seat at the helm.
Mr Crawford is expected to be in post for the remainder of the season.
He said: “The board of directors had a lengthy discussion last night regarding Derek’s replacement and we felt we shouldn’t rush into making a permanent appointment for what is a very important position for the club.
“To give us time to reflect and consider our options, I have agreed, as current vice chairman, to take on the role of interim chairman for the immediate future.”
As a local businessman, Mr Crawford is well-known around the town and has a long and deep rooted history with the club having been on the board for more than 20 years.
Honorary President John Paton added: “This is an excellent appointment for the club. John will bring great experience and stability at a crucial time with the season just started and the transfer window deadline looming.
“As a board it is important we stay focussed on matters on the pitch and provide our management team with as much support as possible and John’s interim appointment will allow us to do just that.”
Fans will be given the opportunity to meet with the chairman and members of the board in the next few weeks.
