JOHNSHAVEN travelled to Banchory on league duties on Saturday and have risen to fifth in the league after a great effort, despite going down to 10 men in the first half.

The visitors started the brighter of the two teams and took the lead in seven minutes. A slick pass from MacLaren found Paul HAGGART who shot low from the edge of the box and gave the’ keeper no chance.

The away team had the chance to double their lead on 18 minutes after left back Slavin went on a mazy run down the left and eventually laid the ball back off to Haggart, whose cross found R. Blease at the back post but his timid shot was blocked by a defender.

Both Johnshaven full backs were pushing on at every opportunity as their team dominated possession. After Dalgarno forced a defender into making a mistake the ball fell to Smith, who blasted over from 10 yards out.

R. Blease looked like he had given Johnshaven a well-deserved cushion on 40 minutes when he tried an audacious chip from the edge of the box, but the ‘keeper managed to pull off a wonder save to keep the scoreline as was.

In the 43rd minute Johnshaven were reduced to 10 men when they had a player sent off.

But the visitors finally did double their lead on the stroke of half-time after a clever back-heel from Beedie found Shaun BLEASE who powered home from five yards out.

Half-time: Banchory 0, Johnshaven 2.

Banchory started off well in the second half and it needed a fantastic one-handed save from goalkeeper Jamieson to prevent them getting a goal back.

Johnshaven made it 3-0 in the 56th minute after a 50-yard angled long pass from Dalgarno found Shaun BLEASE who chipped the advancing keeper

Dalgarno almost got the goal his play had deserved on 66 minutes after beating three men on his solo run to goal but he pulled his shot wide.

With 15 minutes to play Johnshaven made their first substitution when Stephen Stephen replaced Shaun Blease.

They then made their second substitution when Bruce Carnegie, making his first appearance in over a year after a long-term injury problem, replaced an exhausted Paul Haggart.

In the 87th minute a free kick from MacLaren was fumbled by the goalkeeper and captain Steven SCOTT was on hand to volley into the net to make the margin four.

Johnner made their final substitute not long after when Jarred MacLean replaced Steven Smith.

The final whistle blew shortly after to confirm Johnshaven’s win. Great credit must go to every player for the effort they put in after finding themselves with a numerical disadvantage in the first half.

Scott Beedie was named Man of the Match.
