Johnshaven’s 82nd minute winner

JOHNSHAVEN continued their recent good run of form with an excellent victory over promotion-chasing Lads’ Club Amateurs.

The visitors started brightly and in the first minute could have found themselves a goal up. Trialist A’s dangerous cross was deflected. Smith took the resulting corner kick and found Milne but his shot went narrowly over the bar.

Lads Club took an undeserved lead with their first move of the game and 13 minutes on the clock. A quick break involving their left full back ended up with their striker being one-on-one with the Johnshaven’s ‘keeper. His shot went low into the net.

Johnshaven immediately hit back when a Milne corner was punched out by the ‘keeper only to land nicely to Steven SMITH who volleyed the ball into the top corner.

And in the 23rd minute an excellent chip through-ball from Milne found Scott BEEDIE who rifled the ball into the bottom corner giving the ‘keeper no chance.

Johnshaven had efforts through Scott Beedie and MacLaren but their long-range shots were dealt with easily by the Lads’ Club goalkeeper.

Half-time; Lads’ Club 1, Johnshaven 2.

Lads’ Club started the second half a lot better and managed an equaliser in the 47th minute. A long ball from the back found their striker who rounded the ‘keeper and squared the ball across the line only for a Johnshaven defender to try to clear but put the ball into his own net.

Johnshaven restored their lead two minutes later. Trialist A beat a man in the box and, about to shoot for a certain goal, he was taken down. Ross BLEASE stroked the penalty home.

‘Keeper Smith made the save of the day when a striker was one-on-one with him.

Lads Club equalised when a cross was not dealt with and they scored with a tap in.

Johnshaven went 4-3 up in the 82nd minute when a Smith corner was headed home by Nayland MacLAREN.

Johnshaven made two quick successive substitutions when Trialist B replaced Milne, and Leon Dundas replaced David Beedie.

This was an excellent win, which edges Johnshaven closer to safety. They host Stonehaven Athletic on Saturday in what could be their biggest game of the season so far.
