Montrose manager Stuart Garden has appointed Lee Wilkie as his assistant for the forthcoming season.

Former Scotland international and Dundee United defender Wilkie will now join Garden and George Shields as part of the Links Park coaching team.

Garden said: “I’m absolutely delighted to get him as assistant manager as he’s got so much experience as an ex-player.

“He’s given up being an agent to come to us so he is putting a lot of commitment into the club.”

Wilkie added: “I’m really excited. This is my first step into the management side of things so I’m really looking forward to it.

“I watched a lot of Montrose last season and I think they have the potential to get further up the league. They have a great bunch of players and an excellent set up.”

He added: “When I was a player I was undecided about what I was going to do but I did a bit of coaching with the under-15s at Dundee and really enjoyed it, so when this opportunity came up I couldn’t knock it back.”
