Looking good for Montrose

MONTROSE are still flying high in the league as they prepare to face leaders Rangers at Ibrox this Saturday (writes Sarah McLean). Despite not recording a win since travelling to Peterhead over two weeks ago Montrose are third in the league.

In the weeks since the club has recorded a disappointing defeat against Annan Athletic followed by a tough draw against eighth placed Clyde at Links Park on Saturday.

However, Montrose did well to hold on despite being down to 10 men after Stephen McNally’s early sending off for handball. Confidence is high as attention turns to Ibrox.

Manager Stuart Garden said: “Obviously we went into the game looking for a win but when you are down to 10 men and 1-0 down we will take the point.

“I think we deserved the three points after out performance though.

“Our goal in the second half was good work from Leighton McIntosh then Garry Wood cut inside to Scott Johnston who had a great finish.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game Stuart knows his players have their work cut out against the league leaders, “Obviously going to Ibrox is difficult but we are looking forward to it. It’s a different experience.

“We have performed well against them so far this season.”

On the injury front Jamie Winter should be fine to return on Saturday while Craig McLeish is also hopeful.

Paul Lunan is training well as he looks to return after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Meanwhile Lloyd Young will be unavailable for another couple of weeks.

The manager still has hopes of boosting his squad in January and is currently looking to bring Martin Boyle back from Dundee for a loan spell.

He currently has a couple of other players in his sights and hopes that deals will be made in the near future.

Tickets are still available for the Montrose FC Supporters’ Club darts exhibition featuring Brian ‘Pecker’ Woods and Ian ‘Diamond’ White on Saturday (February 2), at the Black Abbot. Tickets are available at www.ticketmontrose.co.uk or from the Black Abbot. They cost £10 in advance or £12.50 at the door.

Local players have won their way through to compete against the two, who will be chatting, playing and signing autographs on the night.

And there will be an auction on the night to play Brian or Ian.
