Lownie hat-trick wins the day

Aberdeen Development 2 Luthermuir WFC 3

Luthermuir went to Balgownie Playing Fields to meet Aberdeen Development in a Second Division North game on a blustery Sunday.

Aberdeen started the brighter and within three minutes carved the first chance when R. Brown cut inside and fired a low shot just by the post.

On 23 minutes Murison was fouled out on the left and Bruce fired the resulting free kick just wide. Luthermuir started to gain more possession and Lownie was providing the home defence with a difficult afternoon thanks to some great runs and winning a succession of corners.

On 31 minutes the breakthrough came when Murison crossed a great ball into the box and LOWNIE darted in between defenders to head home.

The home team was looking disjointed and Luthermuir should have doubled their advantage when a corner on 35 minutes from Bruce was headed just wide by Brough.

Half-time: Aberdeen 0, Luthermuir 1.

Aberdeen controlled the ball for the re-start. On 52 minutes they were level. A ball down the middle had R. BROWN racing towards goal, and she coolly fired it low by the helpless Charles.

This gave the lift the home team needed and as they pressed on another great chance fell for N. Brown but her shot was saved well.

Luthermuir should have gone back in front on 61 minutes when Lownie weaved in and out by four players before slipping the ball in behind the defence for Murison to fire wide.

Aberdeen went back in front on 71 minutes when a ball down the right was missed by the defence and as the attacker fired a low shot at goal Charles saved well but the follow-up was fired home.

Luthermuir made a change with Murray going on to replace Nicol to freshen up the back line.

On 84 minutes LOWNIE drew Luthermuir level when she was played the ball by Brough and worked tirelessly to skin three players before bursting into the box and firing low across the ‘keeper.

Two minutes later Middleton cleared the ball into the Aberdeen half where LOWNIE collected and weaved her way past the defence to leave her one-on-one with the ‘keeper. She made no mistake and fired it home.

Burn then came on for the hard-working Lownie, who left the field to a huge round of applause.
