Luthermuir lose to strong Elgin side

Luthermuir WFC entertained high flying Elgin City on a sunny Sunday at Luthermuir Park, hoping to get another three Second Division North points on the board.

First chance fell to Luthermuir on three minutes when good work down the left had Murison in space where she crossed to the back post and Andrew just missed with the goal gaping.

Ten minutes later the Elgin attacker was racing away at goal. She fired a great shot but Charles brilliantly pushed it round the post for a corner.

On 19 minutes a succession of chances fell to Burns and Boyack but their shots were saved by the away ‘keeper.

A chance was wasted on 28 minutes when good work by Lownie and Andrew down the right had Lownie racing into the box where she fired a low shot and the ‘keeper saved at her feet, Lownie was first to react and fired another shot which the ‘keeper held.

On 38 minutes Elgin made the break-through when good work in the middle released the girl down the right. She cut inside 20 yards from goal and fired an unstoppable shot over Charles.

Second-half play was pretty even for the first 15 minutes with no scoring chances.

On 70 minutes great work down the left by Elgin created a chance when the attacker cut into the box and fired a high shot at goal which Charles tipped over the cross bar.

Within a few minutes Elgin played the ball down the middle and with a one-two got in behind the back line. The attacker fired a low shot past Charles to double Elgin’s lead.

Luthermuir’s Burn come off and Mowatt joined the fray. On 81 minutes Mowatt controlled a good ball and fed it to Lownie who tried a low shot that the ‘keeper pushed away.

Final chance of the game fell to Luthermuir when Mowatt was fouled about 35 yards from goal, Brough fired at goal where the ‘keeper spilled it behind for a corner, Murison whipped over the corner and Boyack just failed to connect.
