LUTHERMUIR eventually managed to get this game played at the third attempt due to bad weather.
Arthurlie United looked confident in their warm-up and the ‘Muir took the game to their Glasgow opponents from the whistle.
In two minutes Greig slipped a great pass in between the back line for Cruickshank to race on to. His shot was driven hard against the post then trundled across the goal and was cleared.
A free kick was awarded to Arthurlie, and an unmarked attacker headed towards goal but the ball was saved well by Wands. Luthermuir controlled the game and on 12 minutes a corner swung over by Slesser was headed goalwards by Miller but was cleared.
The deadlock was broken in 15 minutes. A great run by Slesser saw him open up the defence. His dipping shot could only be parried by the ‘keeper. GREIG was first to react, driving low into the corner.
Luthermuir were dominating their opponents. The away team could not handle the lively Greig, and a minute later he was sent clear by Slesser with the ‘keeper to beat. The ‘keeper took him down but, surprisingly, no penalty and the referee waved play on.
On 21 minutes a great pass by Slesser slipped GREIG down the wing. From 18 yards out he fired into the top corner, leaving the ‘keeper rooted to the spot.
Fifteen minutes later a quick turn by K. Darar resulted in him crashing to the ground. It was clear that he had dislocated his knee and the game was stopped for about 40 minutes until an ambulance arrived to take him to hospital.
Half-time: Luthermuir 2, Arthurlie 0.
The the away team re-started the brighter. On 55 minutes Miller was deemed to have pulled at an attacker in the box and the penalty was slotted home by the striker.
Both teams were pushing forward. Play went from end to end as the next goal would prove to vital. On 66 minutes good work in the middle by Reid created space for DUFF who ran at the back line. From 20 yards out he took aim and arrowed a low shot towards the goal to make it 3-1.
