MCT ‘dogged’ by good luck at Brechin

City Royal 3 MCT 5

MCT managed to assemble the bare 11 for the trip to sunny Brechin, but the game was held up for over 10 minutes thanks to two stray dogs that invaded the pitch.

When the game did start City Royal took the lead in the second minute. The MCT defence did not react to ‘keeper Laidlaw failing to punch clear a cross, and the ball was fired home from a tight angle.

MCT equalised in five minutes when Grant McPHERSON latched on to a Candy pass to fire in an unstoppable shot in off the bar from 25 yards for a great strike.

Another comedy of errors in the MCT defence led to City Royal regaining the lead after 25 minutes.

The visitors equalised again in 35 minutes when a cross was flicked on by McLean, and WILLIAMS ghosted in at the back post for a poacher’s strike from three yards.

Candy brought out a great save from the home ‘keeper from a 20-yard swerving strike, then McPherson headed over the outrushing ‘keeper but his effort went wide.

MCT took the lead just before half-time when GREIG picked up the ball on the half way line and beat the a couple of players. With the City Royal defence expecting a pass he took the ball on himself, outpaced another couple of players and fired in a great shot on the angle from 15 yards

Half-time: City Royal 2, MCT 3.

City Royal made it three-all after 60 minutes with a shot from 10 yards.

The City Royal ‘keeper had two brilliant saves in two minutes, both from Petrie headers, then saved a Morris effort, too.

MCT regained the lead in 75 minutes when Morris squared for CANDY to ram home from five yards.

The visitors finally made the points safe when Grant McPHERSON coolly stroked home from 16 yards, in off the post.

There was still time for McPherson to miss a sitter from three yards.

Just before the end a Royal player had to be taken to hospital after seeming to sustain a bad injury.
